Disability Accommodation Support
Macleay Valley Accommodation Support Service provides person centred support in independent living, with clients who are in their own home or within a small group of people sharing accommodation.
The service maintains a house for clients who for one reason or another do not have access to other suitable accommodation or who need emergency accommodation. Accommodation support staff provide varying levels of assistance and everyday skills training tailored to the needs of the individual client.
Range of Services
We can help you with a variety of day to day activities like:
- Do your own banking, cooking, shopping.
- Handle your own money.
- Maintain your home.
- Visit the doctor or dentist and other health services
- Use public transport
- Access to courses and training
- Community Access programs
- Personal Care
- Gardening
- Pet Care
- Art and Craft programs
- Holiday and leisure activities
- Literacy and numeracy skills
- Work and Social Skills
DAY PROGRAMS
Living Skills is a weekly program providing training in cooking, basic living skills, art classes with our art teacher, organic gardening, games and craft skills program, held on Wednesdays. There is a small weekly attendance charge for materials. Please contact MVASS if you are interested in attending Living Skills.
Community Participation (CP)
Community Participation is a program of assistance available to young adults 18 years and older, with moderate to high support needs of the individual during the transition from school to community living.
Assistance that may be offered if needed includes:
- Independent living skills
- Pre-employment skills.
- Literacy and numeracy
- Access to community facilities and services.
- Participation in leisure and sporting activities and further training.
- The program is tailored to the specific needs of each client in consultation with the client and their family/advocates.
- MVASS also runs a self-funded program where clients pay for their own individualised support.
Who is eligible for Accommodation and Day Program Services?
Accommodation support is available to people with an intellectual disability who live in Kempsey Township and Living Skills is available to people with an intellectual disability who can travel to the activities in Kempsey. C.P. is available to those who meet DADHC’s (Dept. Ageing, Disability, and Home Care www.dadhc.nsw.gov.au) criteria. All MVASS services are subject to eligibility and availability.
